At The CORE Institute Specialty Hospital, our physical therapy department provides daily patient treatments through the use of high-quality, evidence-based interventions.
Most orthopedic patients receive physical therapy twice daily. Our staff is available for questions from both patients and caregivers during your stay and after discharge. Individualized attention, accessibility, and personal interaction with patients set us apart from many of the larger facilities.
After your procedure, the physical therapist will perform an initial evaluation to assess your individual needs in order to develop the most appropriate plan of care. The physical therapist will review goals for discharge, precautions, exercises, equipment needs and expectations for home with you and your caregiver. Our team is here to answer your questions and guide you through the recovery process, making your transition to home smoother. They can also assist with discharge placement and equipment needs, if necessary.
Hospital discharge usually occurs once you are moving well, your pain is controlled, and you have been medically cleared by the surgeon, hospitalist, and physical therapist. Most patients will continue with physical therapy after discharge in an outpatient clinic, with home health therapy, or, if medically necessary, a skilled nursing facility. Joint replacement patients start therapy one to two days after going home, while most spinal procedures will start formal physical therapy in a few weeks, or sometimes months, as determined by your surgeon.
